Built by the community, for the community
The story of how a 0.40-acre plot at Kakching Wairi became a thriving library and information centre.
From a foundation stone to a home for readers
The foundation of the Library and Information Centre was laid on 30 October 1994 on a 0.40-acre plot at Kakching Wairi (C.S. Dag No. 3086, Village No. 62, Sheet No. 4).
It was built entirely through the generosity of the community — donations of money and materials such as bricks, wood and split bamboo, along with discounted labour offered by local construction workers. The first small building was inaugurated on 21 April 1995, and the centre has grown steadily ever since.
