“Read, Lead and Serve”
A community library in the heart of Kakching
Built by the people of Kakching since 1994 — brick by brick, book by book. A welcoming space to read, learn, sit for competitive exams, and serve the community, run on the simple principle of Honesty.
More than a reading room
The Library and Information Centre, Kakching is a people's institution. Its foundation was laid on 30 October 1994 on a 0.40-acre plot at Kakching, and the first small building was inaugurated on 21 April 1995.
Every phase of its growth — from bricks and split bamboo to a full auditorium — has been made possible by community donations of money, materials, and the goodwill of construction workers who offered their labour at a discount.
